We’re entering the hottest days of summer – Are you ready? There are so many fun activities that come up during summertime. Camping, swimming and going to the beach are all on my bucket list. I wanted to incorporate some of these activities into my yoga practice, so I made a list of summertime yoga poses. You can practice these poses inside or out in nature! Just be sure to bring your yoga mat and some sunscreen.
Lion’s breath
It’s Leo season, which means we should celebrate the lion in all of us by practicing our roar. The lion’s breath opens the throat chakra and releases stress, and also gives you the chance to let your silly side out. This breath is the perfect way to wish a Happy Birthday to all the Leos in your life, (Just kidding, they might be a little concerned!)
Boat pose
Now is the time to go out on the water, and there’s no better way to prepare then by practicing boat pose. Boat pose is a great workout for your core and it also helps improve your balance. See if you can relax while holding the pose – You’ll feel like you’re chilling on a cruise vacation!
Dolphin pose
When I’m taking a walk on the beach, I always hope to see some dolphins jumping in and out of the ocean. Dolphin is a great pose to work on because it helps with the flexibility of your spine, hamstrings and calves. After you practice this challenging pose, cool down by jumping in a pool or going under the sea like the dolphins do!
Downward dog
When it gets hot out, I tend to see a lot of dogs sunbathing outside. Once they get up to take a break from the sun, they love to stretch out in down dog pose. Downward dog increases full body circulation and strengthens the entire back – Plus it just feels so good to stretch this way after you’ve been laying down for a long time.
Fish pose
If you go camping this summer, you’ll probably see some fish swimming around in a nearby lake. I included this heart opening pose because I love how it feels to open up my chest and work on my posture. Since this pose stretches the front of the body, I’ve noticed that it feels great to end my practice with this pose. It’s the perfect way to let it go at the end of a hot day.
Hope you are having a wonderful summer! Let me know in the comments which poses that you are trying this month!
