My family and I love affirmation cards! The cards remind us to be more positive and hopefully train our minds to view life more optimistically. At the end of our yoga practice we randomly pull a card from an affirmation deck and see what wisdom the Universe has to tell us.

“All of my changes are easy to make” is the message that we pull remarkably often! It makes us laugh as change can be a huge challenge.

We are involved in a major change, as we are helping our daughter Jessica, who was born with Down Syndrome, to move from the family home into her own place and learn to live more independently. Change has always been hard for her. As a kid she never wanted to let go of anything: toys she had outgrown had to go in stages, clothes that were too small stayed in her drawers way too long and daily habits became rituals. She feels her emotions deeply and often mourns and reminisces the passage of our pets. She greatly misses relationships with friends and caregivers that have moved on. As her Mom, I feel her pain and have worked on helping her learn to let go and welcome change. We have worked with affirmations, and have taught her to keep her memories in photos and scrap books. Of course, practicing yoga helps to empower her. And sometimes just listening and talking things through helps her to facilitate change.

“All of my changes are easy to make”

Affirmations are encouragement to keep going. Jessica’s transition to her new home has been an exciting adventure for all of us. Although it can be hard to believe that these changes are easy, we keep writing our affirmation, as we go through the trials of setting up the right living situation for her. We affirm how easy it is to be moving in little by little, how grown up it is to be leaving mom and dad, how fun it is to be learning to live with roommates, etc. With so many big hurdles, all in all, Jessica is doing really well with the many changes. She is learning and growing. She is proving to herself and the world how capable a person with Down Syndrome can be! She is really teaching us a lot!

Jessica is an great example of having faith and trusting in life. While changes are hard for her, she does change. Slowly and steadily and usually with a roll of the eyes and a smile.
She may not know it but seems to be born under a lucky star. We are amazed at the miracles that are happening in her life every day. From how her new condo came about to the many events and people that seem to show up exactly at the right place at exactly the right time. We have noticed that every seeming set back and mistake along the way has worked out in her favor!

“All of my changes are easy to make”

I keep affirming easy changes as we are not completely through this process. There are so many changes yet to come. When I become overwhelmed with the thoughts of all of this, I remind myself that change is letting go. To let go and allow change is the essence of my Let It Go Yoga practice. It has taught me to be more comfortable with the unknown. I have learned that it’s ok to be in an empty space and allow something new to manifest. Let It Go Yoga has given me the patience and courage to face change. Over the years I have learned to trust life more and to have faith that all will unfold as it should. To welcome change.

Even though we may be helping Jessica make big changes, she has taught us an even bigger lesson. She has taught us to truly believe in miracles. She is our proof that nothing is random, that life provides for all of us. She manifests waves of love and abundance on a daily basis. She may not be big on change, however, she is very big on love, joy and laughter. We know it will take more time but we also know that she will make this transition complete and grow into more independent person.

And, in the meantime we will keep letting go and keep affirming: “All of my changes are easy to make”
