Our hearts have been lifted as we began to hear from more and more of our students that the Let It Go Yoga practice is helping them to cope with the stress and anxiety of Covid19.

We know that Let It Go Yoga is not a magical cure-all-potion but we also know from years of experience that this simple, gentle practice has the power to assist you in making positive changes in your life.

Many years ago as I sat in my one of my first yoga classes our teacher said “ Welcome to Yoga 101 or sometimes called the “school of life”. Here you will learn many lessons, and if you don’t fully comprehend your lesson you will have to repeat it until you do!” He went on to compare yoga with life explaining “there are as many ways to practice yoga as there were ways to live one’s life. Your yoga practice could be hard and fast and you could power through it or you could take your time and practice slow and gentle.” He added “Some of you will only be able to learn the hard way – like getting hit with a two by four between the eyebrows! And some of you may have had enough of those tough love lessons and may be able to learn gently. If you pray or meditate I suggest that you ask for gentle lessons!”

That was the start of my 30 year love of the gentle practice we now call Let It Go Yoga. Although I have benefited from vigorous styles of hatha yoga, Let It Go has taught me to be gentle with myself and others. And now I am reminded that for most of us, if we pay attention, sheltering at home during this pandemic is a gentle lesson.

Yet, Let It Go Yoga, like life, is a paradox: it is gentle and it is very challenging. Lying down to to practice sounds easy, but I am pretty sure you will not fall asleep as it actively works your entire body. Let It Go Yoga teaches the importance of both control and surrender. It is practiced with your eyes closed, so that you can let go of judgment and comparison and allow your inner world to awaken. When you learn to get out of your head, and give your thoughts a rest, you may find that your heart opens more and you feel more loving kindness. And within your separate individual personal practice, you begin to understand more and more that everything and everyone is connected.

It all sounds wonderful, but you have to do the work.

Practicing this one time will not be enough to reap the many rewards. As you practice often you will begin to notice subtle differences in the ways you are holding on. You will begin to notice the connection that letting go of a tight muscle in your body has had something to do with how your daily life is opening up in new and positive ways! It is exciting and remarkable and these experiences will bring you back to the yoga mat for more.

We invite you to take advantage of this time. Join our course, practice by yourself, practice with your family and with those you are sheltered in place with. Join our private Facebook group. Let’s connect and help each other through this. Let’s make this sheltered time one of healing and personal growth. This can be an amazing opportunity for personal transformation that can affect the entire planet in a positive way.

Please pray for gentle lessons and pray that we learn what we need to learn from this uncertain situation. Let’s “get it” right the first time so that we do not ever have to repeat this type of life lesson again.

Namaste
