Yoga has allowed me to grow into the person I am today. Being in a career of helping others as a therapist, I am often asked how I maintain balance in my work. Something I always come back to is my yoga practice. I was introduced to Let It Go yoga in 2012 by my sister, Kelly, who was a student at UCSB. She would talk about how she looked forward to Monday nights to go to someone’s home to practice yoga. Before I did Let It Go yoga, I had only practiced in studios or gyms so this idea seemed really novel for me. Kelly found peace being hundreds of miles away from home in her yoga community, so I had to try it out! I was blown away that I could practice yoga and lay down the entire time. The way I practiced yoga before Let It Go was always a big challenge for me and I always wished I could be as flexible as some of my classmates. With Let It Go Yoga my eyes were closed the entire time and I found the deepest relaxation I’ve ever experienced in my life. It was like Jim and Sue Anne gave me a permission slip to go inward to truly release the stress built up in my body. I finally learned that doing less was more. The less I efforted my way through yoga the more relaxation, internal spaciousness and intuitive downloads I received.

I studied with their online teacher program and found myself practicing Let It Go whenever I felt overwhelmed in my jobs throughout my career. It was a safe place for me to go when I was overwhelmed and consumed by my external world.

I am so proud to have created my own business as a therapist. I currently have a podcast “Therapy Snacks” where I share the chakra meditation I learned in my training in episode #22. I also use the opening meditation each week when I hold group clinical supervision for interns. It is a way to ground, take inventory and relax. Due to the nature of being a therapist especially during the pandemic, it can be extremely stressful. I have received tons of positive feedback offering this at the beginning of the group from the interns. I try to instill with clients, interns and just about anyone I meet the power of mindfulness. I truly believe we must be aware of the energy we possess in order to heal ourselves. Let It Go has taught me how to be more aware of the energy in my body while practicing yoga. It is the gift that keeps on giving for me and surely sends ripples into my life of positivity.
