My yoga journey began when I was in college. My mother, no less, introduced me to Integral Yoga Hatha. (If you knew my mother that is actually quite a hoot.) The timing, as we always discover, was perfect. Navigating college life, dancing as much as possible, and just dealing with “Life” as it is when one is in their 20’s, had me reeling. I remember my first class; I remember the quiet ~ my body, always stressed from dancing, felt spacious and my mind was still. There truly was a softness, an ease. And the philosophy of Integral Yoga, “Truth is one, paths are many” deeply resonated with me and launched me on my journey of seeking, questioning, experiencing, and honoring whatever life offers.
As all journeys ebb and flow I found myself teaching at Santa Barbara Athletic Club and Cathedral Oaks and Sue Anne and Jim crossed my path. Experiencing their classes once again ignited my joy of practicing. I was eager to experience more deeply what they offered. They were not only my Master Teachers but became dear friends. While participating in the Let It Go Training another window of opportunity opened and I had the opportunity to teach yoga at SBCC. That journey continues to evolve as I begin my 18th year sharing the practice. (Sign up for 1 of 2 of my in person Fall 2022 classes!)
One of the most rewarding gifts yoga has offered me and what I hope to impart in my classes, is how integrated the practice can be in our lives ~ from an asana that opens the heart after sitting cramped at a desk writing a paper, to mindful walking from one class to the next. Ultimately, yoga is, and always will be, about community; finding ways to connect with ourselves and with each other, being and staying curious as we uncover the richness of who we are…and that makes the journey so worthwhile.
After you sign up for one of my classes, don’t forget to check out our Theater Company: DramaDogs @ www.dramadogs.org and our upcoming show COLLECTED STORIES by Donald Margulies. September 30th – October 8th.
