Nature
Around you
Within you
In Capturing Stillness – Loving Nature, James Louis Parsons presents a collection of haiku rooted in
quiet observation and mindful awareness of the natural world. Inspired by birdsong, shifting
weather, and early morning walks through the woods, these poems reflect a deep appreciation for the subtle rhythms that shape our days.
Each haiku captures a fleeting moment, a change in light, a passing sound, a pause in motion, inviting you to slow down and notice. Grounded in
mindfulness, this collection honors nature as
something intimate and ever present, woven into daily life.
Rooted in the tradition of haiku while embracing a contemporary style,
Capturing Stillness – Loving Nature explores our relationship with the outdoors and the beauty found in simple moments of attention. 4.5 by 7.25 inches. 124 pages
From the Introduction:
Nature is my greatest source of inspiration.
I am continually moved by the subtle changes that unfold through the seasons, shaped by weather, wildlife, and time. These moments are often overlooked, yet they hold quiet wisdom. Nature is a patient teacher, always offering something to those willing to slow down and notice.
Writing poetry has become my way of honoring these fleeting details, capturing small scenes as they appear and pass. Most of these haiku are rooted in observation, with the natural world leading the way. Each poem is meant to feel like a moment briefly held, then released.
I move through the world with a visual awareness, drawn to light, texture, and the spaces in between. In the same way, these haiku are an invitation to pause, to look more closely, and to appreciate what is already present.
With Capturing Stillness – Loving Nature, I invite you to slow down, to float through the changing landscapes around you, and to reconnect with the quiet beauty of the natural world.

James Parsons has created a driftwood treasure box full of refreshing gems. Each poem is paired with one of his beautifully composed photographs of coastal beauty that can only be found along the shores of Santa Barbara. It’s a pleasure to open this book and flip to any page. His words help me catch my breath. The words of the poem anchor many stray thoughts, and the photo shifts my regard to the simple grandeur of the scene. How calm things become. Beautifully bound, this is a high quality book to be read every day. Make it a showcase on your coffee table for guests to pick up and consider with delight.
