On October 20th, I invite you to join me for Savasana + Joy, a yoga and mindfulness course for actors, writers, and creatives in Los Angeles. I’m so excited to get it rolling! This is the kind of class I wish I had when I first moved to LA, over 7 years ago. It’s taken me a fair amount of time to find my bearings in the entertainment industry… And honestly, I’m still learning! I’ve been lucky to work with many wonderful mentors, but there have been a few distractions along the way. Yoga has been an incredibly useful tool to help me stay focused on my goals and stay grounded amidst the chaos of city life.
My parents are both yoga teachers and I have been practicing yoga all my life. I have attended several yoga teacher trainings and started teaching yoga at 14. I’m thankful to my parents for this solid and mindful foundation. I have studied various styles of yoga, and have found both gentle and powerful practices benefit my acting career.
The entertainment industry can be overwhelming. As an actress, it can be hard to keep track of the all the trends. Everyone has an opinion. One day it’s all about gaining social media followers, the next day it’s about the hottest headshot photographer. I’ll admit that I’ve gotten caught up in the hype and it can feel like a frenzy. Get an agent, get a manager, create your own content! These are all valuable tools but I realized that the most valuable career moves that I can make are the creative endeavors that make me happiest.
For me, that means taking the time to do inner work and figure out what makes my heart sing. Or act, in my case. Practicing yoga and taking the time to meditate provides me with clarity around my goals. Yoga helps me stay calm and connected to my body when dealing with high pressure situations. It also allows me mental flexibility so I can make changes when necessary and be more discerning about the advice I’m given. Yoga gives me strength, confidence, and tools that help me tune into my inner guidance.
My goal with this course is to help other creative professionals listen to their inner teacher and make their decisions from a heartfelt space. I’m thrilled to share the yoga practices that have helped me along the way and create a supportive community where we can learn, grow, and support each other.
