Summer Solstice 2016
Happy Summer!! We love summer in Santa Barbara. One of our favorite things to do is the Summer Solstice Parade. It isn’t officially summer unless we see a pregnant ladies’ exposed belly with a bright sun or a butterfly painted on it! Jim and I have been going to the Solstice Parade every year for over 25 years! It’s a family favorite and we love the happy vibes of summer it evokes. Our kids have grown up participating in the fun. We have rollerbladed, danced, and even dressed up as lamps and sang “You Light Up My Life” up State Street to the park. And then the fun begins. The drummers come out and circle up and we dance till we drop to the beat of the Djembe drummers.
The event has grown into a three day event and the theme this year is “Legends”. This should be interesting…from Marilyn Monroe to Big Foot. What legend would you like to see?
You can even reserve seats at: solsticeparade.com
Silly fun that brings folks together. People young and old dress in tie dye, expose too much skin and wish everyone a “Happy Summer”.
You will find us camped out on Micheltorena Street in the last few blocks before the parade ends in the park. Come and join us as we watch the parade or find us after in the drum circle.
